She was determined to get the attention of politicians and get the government to adopt measures to stop the effects of global warming. Swedish media coverage of Thunbergs action and it became widely known. Soon after, thousands of other students joined in the #FridaysforFuture campaign. They stayed home on Friday to protest climate changes. The world's climate campaigners joined forces in the year 2019 to organize their efforts to coordinate the Global Strike for Climate.
